Product Information
Phenylazoresorcinol is a phenolic compound with antioxidant properties that has been shown to protect DNA from damage by radiation. It reacts with hydrochloric acid to form a copper complex, which can be used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Phenylazoresorcinol also forms a proton and hydroxyl group when it reacts with copper ions or hydrogen, which are important for its enzyme activities. The intramolecular hydrogen bond between the hydroxyl group and the amine on the phenyl ring is very specific for phenylazoresorcinol. This creates a diazonium salt, which is an intermediate in the synthesis of dyes. Phenylazoresorcinol can also undergo transfer reactions to form metal chelates with metals such as iron or chromium, and these chelates have been shown to inhibit enzymes such as phosphodiesterase.
