Trans-ACPD is a low potency enhancer that binds to the receptor molecule, trans-acpd. Trans-ACPD enhances the release of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), a neurotransmitter. Trans-ACPD also has been shown to increase the levels of glutamate and metabotropic glutamate in the brain, enhancing their effects on receptors. This drug may be used for therapeutic purposes in conditions such as Parkinson's disease and epilepsy, or for research purposes in experimental models of these diseases. Trans-ACPD has also been shown to enhance neural activity in areas such as the hippocampus and cortical regions.
