Methyl 4-(tert-butylcarbamoyl)benzoate is a tert-butyl carbamate used as an intermediate for the synthesis of ammonium acetate. It is a colorless, crystalline solid that is soluble in organic solvents such as benzene and diethyl ether. The compound has been shown to possess antioxidant properties and is able to scavenge radicals generated by the oxidation of sulfuric acid or sodium bisulfite. Methyl 4-(tert-butylcarbamoyl)benzoate can also react with amides to form N-substituted amides, which are used in pharmaceuticals and pesticides.
