3²,4²,5²-Trimethoxyflavone (3,4,5-TMF) is a naturally occurring flavonoid that has been shown to have neuroprotective effects. 3,4,5-TMF is a metabolite of the flavonoid kaempferol and can be found in various plants such as grapevine leaves and black tea. 3,4,5-TMF has been shown to inhibit the growth of microorganisms in the human intestine and also to reduce inflammation. The biosynthesis of 3,4,5-TMF is currently not well understood but it is believed that it may be synthesized from methyleugenol or kaempferol by an enzyme called flavonoid 3′-hydroxylase. This is done by adding three hydroxyl groups to kaempferol to produce 3′-hydroxykaempferol which then reacts with 4’-methoxyacetophen
