Methallyltri-N-butyltin is an electron deficient organometallic compound that is used in synthetic chemistry. Methallyltrin-N-butyltin reacts with aldehydes and ketones to give propargyl alcohols, which can be converted to other functional groups. It also reacts with allyl halides, such as allyl bromide, to give the corresponding allyl ethers. Methallyltri-N-butyltin has been used in the preparation of biomolecules, such as peptides and natural products. This compound is used in kinetic studies to study metathesis reactions and chloroformate formation. Methallyltri-N-butyltin has also been shown to catalyze asymmetric epoxidation reactions.
