Product Information

Name:
2-Methylnaphthalene-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester
Description:

2-Methylnaphthalene-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (2MNC) is an organic molecule that is synthesised by the nitration of naphthalene. It can be used as a fungicide, herbicide, and insecticide. 2MNC inhibits protein synthesis in animals by reacting with the amide group of proteins. It is hydrolysed to methylnaphthalene and ethyl alcohol. The hydrolysis reaction requires activation energy (e.g., temperatures greater than 25°C), which may be due to the nucleophilic nature of the carboxylic acid group. 2MNC is also an acid solution, which makes it suitable for use in acidic environments such as plant physiology.
