Viscidulin III is a group P2 proteinase inhibitor that has been shown to inhibit the growth of viruses such as HIV and influenza A. It also inhibits the proliferation of Hl-60 cells, which are human promyelocytic leukemia cells. Viscidulin III has been shown to have anti-oxidative effects in rat liver microsomes and erythrocytes. This proteinase inhibitor also has antioxidative properties and can inhibit oxidative stress induced by hydrogen peroxide or ferrous sulfate.
