5-(1,3-Dioxolan-2-yl)-2-furaldehyde (5DDA) is a fluorescent molecule that emits light at a wavelength of 535 nm. This reactant is also a semiconductor and can be used as a nanosensor for the detection of furan, which is an important industrial pollutant.
