Isosalvianolic acid C is a phenolic acid and the major component of Salvia miltiorrhiza. This compound has been identified as a potent inhibitor of the signal transduction pathways for phospholipase A2, protein kinase C, and tyrosine kinases. It is also known to be an inhibitor of cell proliferation and tumor growth. Isosalvianolic acid C has been shown to inhibit the activity of liver microsomes in rat livers. This compound was found to bind to hydrophilic interaction chromatography with a high affinity, making it useful for analytical methods that require hydrophilic interactions.
