4-(Dimethylamino)-1,1,1-trifluorobut-3-en-2-one is a covalent inhibitor of the enzyme diazoaminase. It is a reactive intermediate that forms a diazonium salt with the enzyme. The crystal structure of the complex was determined by x-ray diffraction analysis and shows that the inhibitor interacts with the enzyme via noncovalent interactions. 4-(Dimethylamino)-1,1,1-trifluorobut-3-en-2-one inhibits the production of nitric oxide in macrophages and can be used to treat asthma and other inflammatory diseases.
