Product Information
RI-2 is a synthetic particle that is comprised of a polystyrene core with a silica shell. The RI-2 particle contains nitric oxide, which is released when the particle comes into contact with a cell surface. This causes the cell to lyse, releasing its cytoplasm and DNA into the surrounding environment. The release of DNA may be used in diagnostic settings to detect bowel disease or hyperproliferative diseases such as cancer. RI-2 particles can also act as a chemical inhibitor for microbial cells and carbon sources, leading to cell death and inflammatory bowel disease diagnosis.
