3-(4-(1-Butyl)phenyl)-1-propene is a reactive allylmagnesium compound that can be used in the synthesis of biaryls. It can be used to transfer a phenyl group to an aryl halide, or react with an aryl halide to form a biaryl. 3-(4-(1-Butyl)phenyl)-1-propene is also useful for the preparation of fluorides and hypervalent organofluorides by cross-coupling reactions. This reagent is also known for its ability to easily intercalate into graphite, making it useful for preparing graphite intercalation compounds.
