Product Information
2-Tridecanoylpyridine is a ligand that forms stable complexes with hydrochloric acid. It has been used as an extractant for metal ions, such as iron, nickel and copper. 2-Tridecanoylpyridine has been shown to be soluble in organic solvents, such as benzene and chloroform. The compound is stable in acidic solutions. The ligand can be synthesized by oxidizing pyridine with nitric acid. This process is followed by the addition of 3-decanoyl chloride to the resulting pyridinium salt. Analysis of the compound's magnetic resonance spectrum has revealed that it contains three different types of protons: hydrophobic, aromatic, and hydroxyl.
2-Tridecanoylpyridine also has been used to detect transition metal ions in gas phase spectroscopy experiments using argon gas. Spectrometry methods have confirmed that 2-tridecanoylp
