Solifenacin is a potent inhibitor of the activity of the neurotransmitter substance P, which is involved in the transmission of signals from sensory neurons to the central nervous system. It is used for the treatment of overactive bladder. Solifenacin has been shown to significantly decrease urinary frequency and urgency in patients with an overactive bladder who have undergone a two-way crossover study. The drug also has statistically significant effects on symptoms such as urgency and nocturia, but does not affect other symptoms like incontinence. Solifenacin can be used in combination with other drugs for patients with an overactive bladder.
