(R)-Xyl-SDP is a ligand that binds to the active site of quinoxaline synthase and inhibits the enzyme's activity. This inhibition prevents the synthesis of quinoxalines, which are essential for bacterial resistance to antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin. (R)-Xyl-SDP has been shown to be effective against Enteritidis, S. enteritidis, and Typhimurium in vitro and may be useful for the prevention of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. (R)-Xyl-SDP is also a chiral molecule that can be used in vaccines to elicit a specific immune response from a patient due to its ability to bind with high affinity to antibodies.
