MOCAc-Gly-Ser-Pro-Ala-Phe-Leu-Ala-Lys(Dnp)-D-Arg is a peptide that is used as an activator and inhibitor of ion channels. This peptide has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the voltage dependent Na+ channel, which is responsible for the depolarization of nerve and muscle cells. MOCAc has also been shown to bind with high affinity to the NMDAR receptor in a competitive manner. The binding of this peptide to the NMDAR receptor prevents glutamate from binding, which leads to inhibition of downstream signaling pathways such as NMDA receptor activation and intracellular calcium release.
