Product Information
The potassium channel inhibitor 2-amino-1,3-benzothiazole-6-carboxylate (KBTX) is a small molecule that blocks voltage-dependent calcium channels, leading to a decrease of cytosolic Ca2+ levels. The drug also inhibits the activity of sodium channels and modulates potassium channels, which may be responsible for its physiological effects. KBTX has been shown to have insecticidal activity against some lepidopteran pests. It has been used in animal models as a possible treatment for congestive heart failure and metabolic disorders such as type II diabetes mellitus. The drug is not recommended for use during pregnancy because it is teratogenic in rats and rabbits.
