7-Hydroxyquinoline-4-carboxylic acid is an intermediate in the synthesis of diazonium compounds. It is a toxic compound and should be handled with care. 7-Hydroxylquinoline-4-carboxylic acid can be synthesized by reacting methanol with nitrobenzene, sulfuric acid, and 6-bromoisatin under the condition of heating at 130°C for one hour. The product can then be purified by recrystallization from hydrochloric acid.
