2,6-Dichloro-1H-indole is a channel blocker that blocks the transfer of ions through channels. It has been shown to inhibit the α1 subunit, which regulates energy metabolism. 2,6-Dichloro-1H-indole has also been shown to inhibit ion transport and optical sensors in cells. The optimum concentration for 2,6-Dichloro-1H-indole is 10 μM. This drug inhibits the activity of polymerase chain reactions by blocking DNA synthesis at the ryanodine receptor or cell specific channels. 2,6-Dichloro-1H-indole can be used to treat infectious diseases such as waterborne diseases and model systems involving bacterial infections.
