7-Chloro-4-hydroxyquinoline-2-carboxylic acid (7CQCA) is an α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist that inhibits the activity of this type of receptor. 7CQCA has been shown to have neuroprotective effects by reducing neuronal death in vitro and in vivo. In addition, 7CQCA has been shown to be a prodrug for picolinic acid, which blocks NMDA receptors.
