Product Information
Thiolane-3-carboxylic acid is a heterospirocyclic compound that inhibits HIV-1 reverse transcriptase. Thiolane-3-carboxylic acid is a biologically active metabolite of the anti-HIV drug azidothymidine, which is in turn obtained by the chemical transformation of the urethane intermediate. The structural similarity between this compound and valine has been shown to be due to the presence of a thiobenzoic ring system. The inhibition of HIV-1 replication by this active form has been shown using protease inhibitors, hydroxyethylamine, and alcohols.
