Chloromethyl(dimethyl)methoxysilane is a synthetic organosilicon compound that is used to make other silicon compounds. It is prepared by the reaction of hydroxide ion with chloromethyl(dimethyl)silane in the presence of potassium t-butoxide and chloride. Chloromethyl(dimethyl)methoxysilane can also be prepared by reacting alkali metal silanes with methyl alcohol, followed by hydrolysis and condensation. The compound has been shown to react with cyclic pyridinium salts, alkyl moieties, and amines to form alicyclic silanes. These reactions are catalyzed by transfer agents.
The flow rate of the reactant gas should be high enough for efficient conversion of chloromethyl(dimethyl)silane to produce high yields of chloromethyl(dimethyl)methoxysilane.
