2-(Methylthio)pyridine (2-MP) is a ternary complex with chloroperoxidase and terminal alkynes, which reacts to form pyrithione. 2-MP is synthesized from dichloropyridine and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate in the presence of metal ions such as Fe(II), Mn(II), Co(II), Cu(I), or Ni(II). The reaction time for 2-MP synthesis depends on the metal ion concentration, but ranges from 10 minutes to 10 hours. This compound has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of methane monooxygenase and dipole, as well as boronic acids and enaminones.
