- 4-Methylbenzenecarboximidamide Hydrochloride (1:1)
4-Methylbenzenecarboximidamide is a metal ion complex that binds to Ca2+ and Gd3+ ions. It forms a ternary complex with benzamidine, which can be used as a fluorescent probe for the determination of these ions. The binding constants of 4-methylbenzenecarboximidamide to Ca2+ and Gd3+ are 3.1 x 10 M and 1.5 x 10 M respectively.
4-Methylbenzenecarboximidamide has been shown to form a lanthanide-complex with dimethylformamide by exchange reactions, and it has been used for the synthesis of gadolinium complexes. The reaction mechanism of 4-methylbenzenecarboximidamide is yet unknown, but it is thought to involve either an amide or iminium formation or a hydrogen transfer from the carboxylic acid group to the metal ion.
