Product Information
- Propane, 1,1,2,3-tetrachloro-
1,1,2,3-Tetrachloropropane is a chlorinated hydrocarbon that is used as a solvent and a reactant in the production of other compounds. 1,1,2,3-Tetrachloropropane is synthesized by reacting chlorine at high temperature and pressure with propylene. This reaction yields an activated product that reacts with water to form tetrachloroethylene and hydrogen chloride. The dehalogenase enzyme removes chlorine atoms from the molecule, forming 1,1-dichloroethane. The vapor pressure of 1,1-dichloroethane is much lower than that of 1,1,2,3-tetrachloropropane. Surfactants may be added to 1,1-dichloroethane to produce surfactants such as detergents or wetting agents. Kinetics data for this reaction show an activation energy of 49 kcal/mol and
