Product Information

Name:
3-Hydroxy-2-methoxynaphthalene
Description:

3-Hydroxy-2-methoxynaphthalene is a synthetic compound that has been shown to have anti-tumorigenic properties. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of human epidermal carcinoma cells in vitro and in vivo. The mechanism of action for 3-hydroxy-2-methoxynaphthalene may be due to the inhibition of multidrug resistance gene product (MRP) activity, which is involved with cellular detoxification. This compound is also able to bind selenium, which may be the cause of its chemotherapeutic properties. 3-hydroxy-2-methoxynaphthalene has also been shown to inhibit lipogenesis by blocking the conversion of butyric acid into acetic acid. This leads to an accumulation of butyric acid in cancer cells, inducing apoptosis.
