2,4-Diaminopyrimidine-5-carboxylic acid (2,4-DAP) is an inorganic acid that can be used for the treatment of wastewater. It has a neutral pH and can be used at concentrations of 1-10 mg/L. 2,4-DAP is produced by the anthropogenic reaction of amines and nitrous acid. The inorganic form of 2,4-DAP has been shown to react with triclosan in wastewater to produce organic 2,4-diaminopyrimidine (2,4-DA). This product has been shown to have inflammatory pain relieving properties. The kinetic behaviour of 2,4-DA isomers was studied by sample preparation and reaction rate experiments.
