3-(2-methoxyphenyl)propan-1-amine is a cationic photoactivator that can be used to generate acridinium radicals. The photolysis of 3-(2-methoxyphenyl)propan-1-amine leads to the formation of the acridinium radical and its subsequent reaction with oxygen or other oxidizing agents. This reaction can lead to the production of tetrahydroquinolines, alkylamines, and annulations. 3-(2-Methoxyphenyl)propan-1-amine is also an efficient reagent for generating acridinium radicals from aryloxy compounds. 3-(2-Methoxyphenyl)propan-1-amine is synthesized by reacting methoxybenzene with ammonia in the presence of hydrochloric acid.
