Product Information
- 2-Heptynoic acid, methyl ester
- NSC 129339
Methyl 2-heptynoate is a reactive functional group that is used in organic synthesis. It is a chiral molecule that has been synthesized from terminal alkynes and allylstannanes. This compound can be used as an activated methylene in the synthesis of methacrylates. Methyl 2-heptynoate undergoes radical chain reactions to form tetralin, which is an unsymmetrical, stereoselective molecule with three different double bonds. These bonds are located at the terminal carbon atoms on both sides of the molecule. The terminal alkyne group reacts with a ruthenium complex to produce an allylstannane, which then undergoes nucleophilic substitution with methyl iodide to form methyl 2-heptynoate.
