Dimethylpyrazine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid is an organic compound that belongs to the class of carboxylic acids. It is a synthetic molecule with a centrosymmetric molecular structure. Dimethylpyrazine-2,5-dicarboxylic acid has been shown to coordinate copper and form supramolecular complexes. The coordination of the metal results in hydrogen bonding between the oxygen atoms of the carboxylate group and the hydroxyl groups of coordinated water molecules. In addition, this compound can be hydrolyzed by heat or by non-specific esterases to yield methyl pyrazine-2,5-dicarboxylate.
