4-(Pyridin-3-yl)phenol is a phytotoxic phenolic compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of Phytophthora and Sclerotinia. It also has an impact on the pathogenesis of these fungi. 4-(Pyridin-3-yl)phenol inhibits the synthesis of TNF-α, Cox-1, and mesangial cells in rat mesangial cells. This agent also inhibits fungal proliferation by binding to ergosterol and inhibiting the production of cytochrome P450 enzymes. 4-(Pyridin-3-yl)phenol is synthesized from pyridine and phenol by a variety of halide reagents. It is used as an antifungal agent in agriculture to control plant diseases caused by fungi.
