2-(Carboxymethyl)-4-methoxybenzoic acid is a cytotoxic agent that inhibits tumor growth by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins important for cell division. It targets and binds to DNA, which prevents transcription and replication. 2-(Carboxymethyl)-4-methoxybenzoic acid has been shown to have an antitumor effect in both in vitro and in vivo models using a xenograft model. The compound has also been shown to inhibit tumor growth in mice with human prostate cancer cells implanted subcutaneously. This drug is active against a number of different types of tumors, including breast, lung, colon, and prostate cancers.
