- Quinoline, 6-bromo-8-nitro-
6-Bromo-8-nitroquinoline is a halogenated aromatic compound that has been shown to be active against Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Aspergillus, and Myrothecium verrucaria. It is classified as an antifungal agent because it inhibits the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids in fungi by binding to ergosterol in cellular membranes. 6-Bromo-8-nitroquinoline has been found to have fungicidal activity against T. mentagrophytes, M. verrucaria, and A. nidulans at concentrations of 0.5 mcg/ml or greater and to inhibit the growth of T. mentagrophytes at concentrations of 1 mcg/ml or greater with an IC50 value of 0.26 mcg/ml. 6-Bromo-8-nitroquinoline also has some antibacterial properties but it is not effective
