DBTE has been shown to be active against resistant strains, including those that are resistant to controllers such as aminoglycosides and beta-lactams. DBTE is a yellow solid with a strong smell. The chemical formula for DBTE is C6H4Br2O2S. This compound can be synthesized by reacting bromine with 2,2-dibromoethanol in the presence of glycol.
