Product Information
Labetalol is a beta-blocker that is used to treat high blood pressure. Labetalol acts by binding to the beta-adrenergic receptor, which prevents it from being activated by the endogenous neurotransmitter norepinephrine. The binding of labetalol to the receptor results in desensitization, which reduces the production of cAMP and subsequently lowers blood pressure. Labetalol has been shown to be effective in reducing blood pressure in mice with an angiotensin II-induced hypertensive phenotype. It also has a clinical use for treating cardiac arrhythmias and as a vasodilator for patients with coronary artery disease. Labetalol is metabolized by cytochrome P450 enzymes, mainly CYP2D6, CYP3A4 and CYP2C9.
