It also has antibacterial properties, which are due to its ability to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to DNA and preventing transcription. 1-Methyl-6-nitroquinolin-4(1H)-one is a formyl compound that can be synthesized from 3-formylbenzene, carboxylic acid, and an alkali metal. The sodium salt of this drug is used as pessaries or vaginal tablets for the treatment of bacterial infections.
