Product Information
L-Leucine benzyl ester hydrochloride is a coupling agent that is used in the synthesis of antibiotics. It is an axial chiral compound, which means that it has two stereoisomers that are mirror images of each other. The levorotary form (L) is a relatively weak antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity against bacteria, fungi and viruses. The dextrorotary form (D) has no antibacterial activity. L-Leucine benzyl ester hydrochloride is also used for catalytic oxidation reactions such as the conversion of hydrocarbons to alcohols and oxidizing agents. This chemical can be synthesized by reacting 3-hydroxypropanoic acid with an amine and ammonium chloride or hydrogen chloride gas in the presence of a catalyst such as ferric chloride.
