Description:
2-(2-Pyridyl)ethanesulfonic acid is a monomer that can be used as an additive to polymers and other materials. It has been shown to have antimicrobial properties in the form of a sodium salt, which can be used as an additive for pharmaceuticals and food packaging. 2-(2-Pyridyl)ethanesulfonic acid has also been shown to have antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects against infectious diseases such as HIV, hepatitis B and C, influenza, dengue fever, malaria, and herpes. The mechanism of action is not clear but may be due to its ability to inhibit the growth of viruses by interfering with their protein synthesis. 2-(2-Pyridyl)ethanesulfonic acid is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol or acetone.
