Isonicotinic acid decyl ester (INA) is a potent xanthine oxidase inhibitor that can be used to treat autoimmune diseases. INA inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, by inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase. This inhibition prevents an excessive accumulation of uric acid in the body, which can lead to gouty arthritis. Isonicotinic acid decyl ester also has synergistic effects with other drugs, including benzoates and methyl anthranilate. These compounds have been shown to inhibit the production of inflammatory mediators at much lower doses when combined with INA than when given alone.
