Product Information
Lacosamide is a drug that belongs to the class of drugs called allosteric modulators. It has been shown to have a pharmacological effect on sodium channels, which are the main excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. This drug has been developed for the treatment of epilepsy and seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Dravet syndrome, and other conditions. Lacosamide can be used as an alternative to benzodiazepines, which are also used for this purpose. The clinical development of lacosamide has shown that it is effective in reducing seizures and improving quality of life.
Lacosamide is an analog of the anti-epileptic drug, clonazepam, but it does not bind to benzodiazepine receptors or interact with GABA receptors. Instead, it binds to sodium channels in neurons, making them less responsive to stimuli by slowing down their recovery from inactivation.
