Product Information

Name:
2-Bromo-5-(chloromethyl)pyridine
Synonyms:
  • 2-Bromo-5-chloromethylpyridine
  • Pyridine, 2-Bromo-5-(Chloromethyl)-
Description:

2-Bromo-5-(chloromethyl)pyridine is a positron-emitting radiopharmaceutical that can be used for the diagnosis of various diseases, including cancers. It is synthesized from the reaction between 5-bromopyridine and chloral hydrate in the presence of copper chloride. The synthesis yields a ligand with four cyclic hydrazones that can bind to copper ions, which are then used as a diagnostic probe for positron emission tomography. The compound is also useful for x-ray crystallography studies on biological systems, as it has been shown to form crystals with high diffraction quality and good yields.
