2-Chloro-N-phenylpyridin-3-amine is an arylating agent that can be used to introduce a chloro, bromo, or iodo substituent into an aromatic ring. It is usually used to produce activated esters for the synthesis of other compounds. 2-Chloro-N-phenylpyridin-3-amine is not very reactive at room temperature and must be heated in order to react. The reaction takes place at high temperatures and yields are proportional to the amount of heat applied. This chemical has been shown to be reactive with aliphatic amines at elevated temperatures, yielding N-(2-chloropyridinium)amines.
