It has been shown to be an analog of recifeiolide, which is a monomer that can be used to make polymers for use in coatings and adhesives. Sodium p-toluenesulfinate tetrahydrate reacts with amines to form nitro groups, which are used as intermediates in the manufacture of nylon-6,6. In addition, it can be used as a catalyst to form vinylic and styrene compounds.
