Description:
6-(4-Methoxyphenyl)-3-thiophen-2-yl-pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine (MTPA) is a drug that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of depression. This class of drugs is thought to act by blocking the reuptake of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and increasing its availability at synapses. MTPA has been shown to improve both behavioral and retinal function, as well as decrease glutamate levels in the brain. These changes may lead to an increased synchrony of neural activity. Further research is needed to determine what effects MTPA may have on other transmitters, such as dopamine and serotonin, and how it may affect a person's behavior.
