Product Information
Ethyl 2-(4-bromophenyl)butanoate is a thionyl carboanion that is synthesized by the ring-opening of ethyl 4-bromobutanoate with thionyl chloride. It has analgesic properties and is used in the synthesis of anesthetic agents. Ethyl 2-(4-bromophenyl)butanoate reacts with α-pinene to form a mixture of two compounds, isoprene and ethyl 4-chlorobutanoate. The reaction time for this reaction is 15 minutes, and it yields about 75% of the theoretical yield. This reaction occurs through a catalytic mechanism involving surfactant molecules that bind to the metal ions in the reaction medium, which lowers the activation energy for the reaction. Ethyl 2-(4-bromophenyl)butanoate contains functional groups such as alcohols, ethers, and esters.
