Product Information

Name:
AZD5904
Synonyms:
  • 1,2,3,9-Tetrahydro-3-[[(2R)-tetrahydro-2-furanyl]methyl]-2-thioxo-6H-purin-6-one
Description:

AZD5904 is a specific treatment that inhibits the enzyme hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and may be used to treat inflammatory diseases. HOCl is an oxidant that can be produced by neutrophils and macrophages, which has been shown to have a role in insulin sensitivity. AZD5904 has been shown to inhibit the production of HOCl in rats with diabetes mellitus type 2 and may also be useful for the treatment of cardiac hypertrophy.
A study was conducted using Sprague-Dawley rats, which were given AZD5904. The rats were first incubated with glucose, then injected with insulin. The rats showed reduced levels of glucose after receiving AZD5904 as compared to control groups that did not receive the drug. The study concluded that AZD5904 inhibited insulin sensitivity, thereby reducing blood glucose levels in diabetic models.
