It is synthesized by the condensation of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde in vitro. 1-Vinylisoquinoline binds to receptors and has shown potent antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. 1-Vinylisoquinoline also inhibits the growth of cancer cells and can be used as an inhibitor of cationic polymerization reactions.
