Description:
3,4-Diethylhexane is a pentane that is a metabolic product of the fatty acids in the human body. It inhibits oxidative phosphorylation by competitively inhibiting adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthase. 3,4-Diethylhexane also binds to serotonin receptors and has been shown to be an inhibitor of the monophosphate-activated protein kinase. The compound has been used as a model system for studying the effects of temperature on enzyme activity. 3,4-Diethylhexane can be used as an acceptor substrate for optimization of chemical reactions due to its constant boiling point and vapor pressure.
