Methyl picolinimidate is a biological molecule that has high affinity for lysine residues in proteins. It is able to bind with malonic acid to form a chelate ligand, which is a type of chemical bond between two molecules. This ligand binds nitrogen atoms and forms a stable complex with an enzyme called glutamate dehydrogenase. Methyl picolinimidate can be used to inhibit the growth of cells, such as those involved in autoimmune diseases, by blocking the function of this enzyme. Methyl picolinimidate also has the ability to bind with red blood cell membranes and may be useful in the prevention of strokes or heart attacks by inhibiting platelet aggregation.
