Product Information
- 2,9-Dimethyldec-5-Yne
2,9-Dimethyl-5-decyne is a natural product that is synthesized from the essential oil of Citrus aurantium. It has been shown to have significant antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 2,9-Dimethyl-5-decyne has also been reported to have antioxidant properties and can be used as a flavor/fragrance agent in food products. The synthesis of 2,9-dimethyl-5-decyne requires optimization of the reaction conditions. A high yield was obtained with the use of an optimized strategy that includes chlorides as reagents instead of sodium chloride. This strategy gives better yields compared to strategies that use sodium chloride or sodium bromide. Reactive c-h bonds were formed during the reaction which allowed for cleavage by butanoic acid or terminal alkynes in order
